The why
3 years ago the then owner of Saab came to the conclusion that Saab as a brand was to be wound down.
3 years ago, one person had an idea.
He wanted to show his support for Saab.
He mentioned this on saabforum.nl, a website visited by Dutch Saab enthusiasts, and the first Saab Support Convoy was a fact. The original organising team rapidly grew to 5 people who ended up with a list of ever growing numbers of participants.
Through SaabsUnited this idea was publicised and was picked up by many other countries. In the end some 70 odd convoys worldwide took to the streets, creating a massive amount of publicity.
In the Netherlands alone some 900 cars and participants ended up on a huge parking place outside the city of Muiden. A happening which made people aware that Saab as a brand has a very large and loyal group of followers. People were simply happy to show their support for this unique and iconic brand. In Sweden a staggering 2,500 cars appeared!
The rest is history. Saab was acquired by Spyker Cars and the reborn festival was a fact. Many Saab drivers came to Trollhättan and showed their support. Things however did not turn out well. As we all know, the current owner of Saab had to stop the voluntary reconstruction and file for bankruptcy. This news did hit those working for the company very hard. For them Saab is their daily bread, for us, it is a brand we all love and support.
And that is the reason why we are urging you all to yet again show your support for the brand. Saab may be in very deep and murky waters, there is still an odd chance for it to survive. We need to show our support for the brand, we need to show everybody in the world the brand is alive and well. We as organisers would like to invite you to regain your local contacts and organise a meeting on the 14th or 15th of January 2012.
Let’s show worldwide that we are here to stay, so is Saab. Let’s show to anyone interested in helping Saab survive that there is a very large number of people who embrace the brand and want to keep it alive.
Remember this: “We are many, we are SAAB”
Show your support, and get together in a meeting. Inform the press in your country and let us know what you are doing.
